Watendlath Tarn and Whinlatter Forest Park

Date of Walk: 23/07/2006
Mountains Climbed: -
Length of Walk: 1 mile in total
Starting Point:   Watendlath Tarn Car Park/Whinlatter Forest Park Visitors Centre Grid Ref: NY276163/NY207244
Route: Down to Watendlath Tarn/Around the Forest Park Visitors Centre area

Our last full day in the Lakes was another beautiful, hot and sunny day, so we drove first to Ashness Bridge, where we let Jack run around and play on the rocks.

Then we made a brief stop at Surprise View, so Karen could see the view across Derwent Water, and then we drove to Watendlath Tarn, where we walked to the Tarn and Jack watched the ducklings. When the tea shop opened, we had a drink and bought some duck food, and then went back to let Jack feed the ducks, which he really liked.

Then we drove across to Whinlatter Forest Park, where we had an excellent lunch at the Visitors Centre, before making our way back to the campsite, so Jack could play with his kite and football and other toys he had accumulated during the holiday.

The following morning, we packed the tent straight after breakfast and set off on our long car journey back to the south coast after a wonderful holiday.
