Rowing Round Grasmere

Date of Walk: 18/7/2003
Mountains Climbed: -
Length of Walk: 1 mile
Starting Point: Faeryland, Grasmere Grid Ref: NY 335074
Route: -

Not a walk in the strictest sense of the word as we only walked from Grasmere, but after the previous day's extended walk, David offered to row me round Grasmere Lake. There is a place called Faeryland at the side of the road on the way to Red Bank from Grasmere that hires out rowing boats, and we have often talked about doing it, so today seemed a good chance.

We hired a boat for an hour, during which time David rowed me round the island in the middle of the lake, and we had a chance to watch Great Crested Grebes and Mallards at quite close quarters.

They also serve drinks, so we finished off with a cup of coffee before walking back to Grasmere.
